the MTA strike : not as fun as 8/14 (the blackout)

well i walked to work today. it took about 1 hour and 4 minutes, door to door. here is the route i walked it wasnt that bad, really. my iPod seem to get into the spirit of it all and "randomly" chose the ladybug transistor's "forest marching song" as i began the walk over the bridge. luckily, leen knitted me a hat with ear flaps and alison gave me a nice wool sweater, so i stayed fairly warm. however, during the last 1/4 of the bridge my thighs were frozen and started to itch. it must have been all the wind on the bridge? i'm sure i wasnt too attractive, what with all the scratching/rubbing/groping. by this time, the iPod had chosen to play matmos' "the struggle against unreality begins" from the civil war. i know probably nobody is familiar with that song, but it was very appropriate for marching drudgery. at the end of the bridge the red cross gave me some coffee. the was very charming until i tased the coffee. you know that cheap coffee flavor, sort of meat brothy. and they didnt provide lids so the broth quickly turned cold. but it was still nice that they were out there. and then i walked the 30+ blocks north and here i am.

I too had to walk, but from Park Slope brooklyn. I'd elaborate on my journey, but I have too much work to do since no one else decided to show up. It was a long journey, at 2 and half hours, door to door. but i enjoyed most of it. I also did begin to itch... but not until 22 Street.

i rode my bicycle. just as i was about to go over the bridge, my chain got caught between the sprocket and some piece that's suppose to guide it, not trap it. anyway, a nice passerby happened to have an allen wrench, and i was soon on my way. the roughly 5-mile trip took about 45 minutes. the only parts of me that were really cold were my toes. my new down jacket, and the exertion, kept the rest of me pretty warm.
